Hello from the Ancient Man Team!

We realize that our online presence has been rather lacking for quite some time - but we are not gone! In fact, in the months of our absence, we have been hard at work! Our new book, the fruit of much labor, meetings, prayer, research, writing, editing, rewriting, more prayer, and more meetings, is about to be released!

We are so excited about this next installment in the Ancient Man story. In the new book, you will find lots of intriguing and fascinating info about ancient cultures, cities, people and artifacts - all the things you loved about Genius. We've added more detail and more depth and some of our favorite evidences of God's design. Secrets is set up chronologically so that you can trace the history of ancient times more clearly as civilizations rose and fell throughout time.

The Ancient Island of Malta

In a short account in Acts, wedged between his shipwreck and arrival in Rome, we find Paul and his company on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea (Acts 28:1-10). The brief story describes the unusual kindness of the native people towards the shipwrecked survivors. It is on this island that Paul is bitten by a viper and yet suffers no harm, causing the natives to think him a god.

We love mysteries. We can’t help it! God created man with the desire to learn and explore and discover His beautiful creation. Satan sometimes uses this characteristic of man to tempt us. Just like he offered knowledge to Eve in the Garden, sometimes our desire to “know” can lead us away from God instead of toward Him. However this doesn’t mean it is a sin to investigate mysteries, but we should always be wary of our motivations.

The Biblical account of the Tower of Babel is a familiar one. We know that it was at Babel that God divided the languages and thereby scattered the people in all directions to fill the earth and multiply. But we are not so familiar with the span of time between the dispersion and the many civilizations that were created by the migration from Babel. Evolutionary models for how man populated the globe are so common that when confronted with the question of how it happened from a biblical perspective and within a biblical timeframe, we often come up short for answers.

The semi-deserts of southeastern Turkey seem very uninviting. Yet archaeologists flock there like the sheep that graze the valleys between the dusty plateaus, to feast their eyes on something that has changed their view of humanity’s advancement. A gently rounded hill rises above the surrounding landscape. What lies within this hill is what has attracted all the attention. A shepherd was the first to discover the top of a pillar jutting up out of the dirt and introduced the site to archaeological curiosity. But it was a German archaeologist named Klaus Schmidt in 1994 who ‘unveiled’ the incredible importance of this hill known as Gobekli Tepe. [1]

For many people, studying ancient man and his accomplishments can give rise to more questions than answers. For instance, ancient technology in architecture, art, transportation, agriculture, and even sanitation often baffles our modern minds. Such ancient technology clearly displays that ancient men were intelligent—just as we would expect from a biblical worldview. But other questions arise—maybe you as a reader have been asking them: Were there any ancient societies that did not possess advanced technology? If so, then were they still intelligent? And what about tribal people that live in remote areas of the earth? Are they intelligent? Is intelligence dependent upon technology?
